The Asociación Deportivo Cali , better known simply as Deportivo Cali , has won 9 titles in the top flight of Colombian soccer, a Copa Colombia, and a Colombian Super League since its inception in 1912. It has been a two-time finalist in the Copa Libertadores de América, the first time in 1978, being the first Colombian team to reach the final of this tournament, and the second in 1999. It was runner-up in the Merconorte Cup in its first edition. It is the oldest team in Colombia and the only Colombian team with its own stadium, this being the Deportivo Cali Stadium, the largest in the country.
In his amateur days he won 8 departmental championships. He was a founding member of professional soccer in the country, participating all his seasons in the first division, a category from which he has never been relegated and from which he was only absent three times (1956, 57 and 58). The team occupies the second position in the historical table of the first division and the 102nd position in the IFFHS Club World Ranking, occupying the 4th place among Colombian clubs in the ranking. It was listed in 2014 as the 15th most valuable team in America by Forbes magazine, being the only Colombian team to appear on the list. Again, it would repeat as the only Colombian team on the list in 2016, occupying the 36th position, and in 2017 in the 25th position. It is the only team that functions as an association, the club being the exclusive property of its members.
